SHOOTING FOR THE WEB CHANGES THE PACE & STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY

Internet Photography Moves at Warp Speed with a New & Larger Client-Focused Interactive Site and New Studios in The Big Apple

San Francisco, CA - As it has for many businesses, the Internet has picked up the pace of what photographers do. "Clients no longer want to wait a week or even a day for their images," says David Duprey of Internet Photography, a studio specializing in shooting for the Web. "Using our site as a portal, clients can review the work almost the instant it's shot. They can have images sent to their server or e-mailed to their location half a world away. Traditional film photography is going the way of the dinosaur."

Internet Photography's business is booming with assignments from e-commerce businesses like eToys, cooking.com and garden.com. "Images shot for the Internet need to be kept simple because they are often first viewed as thumbnails measuring no more than an inch across," says Duprey. "We shoot with the idea that we are creating an icon for the product image. Even in its smallest version, the main selling points of any given product should be clear and readable."

Shooting for the Web means defining a visual strategy that is both creative and enhances the consumers online experience. Additionally, says Duprey, the image must accurately reflect the product the consumer will receive in the mail. Accurate color and proper lighting are essential in product photography.

Internet Photography Co-founder Mark Holthusen says his company's digital photography process is also advantageous to clients because it costs less to shoot. "A lot of start-ups cannot afford the prices of high end catalog studios," says Co-founder Mark Hothusen. "They often try and shoot their own products in house to save money with disastrous results. Because we remove the expense of traditional film, and make use of the latest digital technology, the production process is faster and less expensive. These savings are passed on to the client."

Internet Photography delivers web-ready color-corrected, optimized images online within hours after shooting. Other clients request their images to be supplied on a master CD-rom. The company scales its delivery according to the needs of their client. For clients who want a record of all images on file, updated and available over the Web, Internet-Photography.com offers cataloging or archiving services on its new expanded site.

Duprey and Mark Holthusen founded Internet Photography in 1998. The company has studios in San Francisco, Los Angeles and this month is celebrating the opening of its new east coast offices in New York City.

Having studied art at the San Francisco Art Institute and photography at the Brooks Institute, Mark Holthusen worked for such prestigious organizations as The San Francisco Examiner and DMB&B Advertising. He also served as a consultant and photographer to Adobe Systems and Banana Republic before forming Internet Photography. Mark currently teaches digital photography at the Center for Creative Arts in San Francisco.

David Duprey has been a working photographer since he was 16. His credits include three years as staff photographer with the San Francisco Weekly, two years staff photographer for the Independent Biker plus freelance assignments for a variety of national and international publications including: The San Francisco Chronicle, The San Francisco Examiner, Easy Rider, Soma, Tattoo, Savage and Impact magazines. David also has extensive experience in art direction and set design, having paid the bills as a television and film set designer for such companies as Macy's, Propaganda films and Zoom media.
