ANVIL LOGIC FINDS TECHNICAL SOLUTION TO THE GROWING ACRONYM PROBLEM

Washington, DC - Anvil Logic Inc. announced today the launch of their new acronym management program, AcroWizard 2, targeted to solve the serious productivity problems for Federal workers and contractors caused by the increasing use of acronyms.

A typical excerpt from the AFFARS (Air Force Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement) designed for civilians wishing to sell to the Air Force, reads:

"(3) Submit deviation requests as follows: (i) MAJCOMs, FOAs, and DRUs shall submit requests for class deviations and individual deviations from the six FAR/DFARS parts and subparts listed in DFARS 201.402 (1) to SAF/AQCP for processing to the Director of Defense Procurement, Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition and Technology), USD(A&T)DP for approval. . .In addition, the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Acquisition), ASAF(A), who is the HCA for PEO and DAC Programs, has delegated the authority to approve individual deviations for contracts for PEO and DAC Programs to the AFMC Director of Contracting. This authority may be exercised by the Deputy Director. In AFMC, individual deviation authority for PEO and DAC Programs and Other Contracting may be redelegated to the Senior Center Contracting Official." (section 5301.402)

Until now, the only way to decipher the meaning of acronymic documents has been to either stop working and spend time shuffling through acronym lists; stop working to call coworkers who may know the definition; or stop working to call the agency which originated the acronym. Even electronic solutions have not helped. Every solution available before Anvil Logic's AcroWizard either requires you to stop working, open an acronym search engine, type in the acronym, and wait for the server to respond. Or, they require you to stop working, wait for the 'alt click' services to connect with the Internet, wait for the server - and then, when the server finally responds, they overload you with distracting graphics and subtle (and not so subtle) cross-advertising.

Anvil Logic Inc. provides the solution with their well thought-out AcroWizard software application which premiered at the FOSE, 2001 IT Exposition in Washington DC. The software instantly provides acronym definitions while you work, without needing to close any document windows or connect to the Internet. From within almost any type of document - web browsers, emails, Word Processing programs, etc. - just one click provides the acronym definition in a small window, without any additional distractions or cross advertising.

AcroWizard comes with a pre-existing database of 25,000 acronym definitions. In addition, you can automatically retrieve acronym definitions from almost every document on your hard drive, instantly customizing the database to reflect your own specialization. If an acronym is not found within the pre-existing database, AcroWizard can submit queries automatically to the world's largest online acronym resource, AcronymFinder.com, which has a database of over 187,000 acronym definitions.

"Finally, AcroWizard modernizes the process of creating a Table of Acronyms," said Scott Padgett, CEO of Anvil Logic. "Currently, document writers have the choice of either creating a Table of Acronyms by the time-consuming process of searching through their document and extracting acronyms on a case by case basis - or by using a general acronym list, and disregarding the inconsistencies between that list and the document. AcroWizard modernizes this process by scanning documents for acronyms and abbreviations, and creating a customized acronym list in about 10 seconds for a 100 page document."

AcroWizard integrates with MSWord, and is included in the context menu. By clicking with the right mouse button on an acronym, you can find out the definition and have the opportunity to confirm whether the acronym has been defined at first use. If it has not been defined, AcroWizard provides the acronym definition from the database, or allows you to access Acronymfinder.com and automatically query their database.

Pricing and Availability

AcroWizard is available in two versions, AcroWizard, which retails for $79.99 and AcroWizard Lite for $19.99. AcroWizard Lite acts as an expanding acronym dictionary but does not include the document control features. Both versions will be available for purchase, or 30-day free trial at: http://www.anvillogic.com/products .

Microsoft is including AcroWizard 2 on the accompanying cd for upcoming release of the MS Press book about the next generation of Microsoft Office (Office XP).
